Directions:

From the South
M6/M74 to Gretna
A75 direction Dumfries/Stranraer to Ringford which is a few miles west of Castle Douglas and about 25 miles west of Dumfries. If you go past the Old School Tearoom on your right, you have gone too far. Take the A762 into Ringford and turn left in the village in the direction of Laurieston/New Galloway. Almost exactly 2 miles (just past white cottage, with yellow down pipes and guttering, on the right hand side of the road) turn right, where there is a sign saying Backfell, over cattle grid and about 1/4 of a mile up the farm road you will find Backfell.

From the North/East
M74 to Junction (Moffat/Beattock)
A701 to Dumfries. A75 to Stranraer as far as Ringford which is a few miles west of Castle Douglas and about 25 miles west of Dumfries. If you go past the Old School Tearoom on your right, you have gone too far. Take the A762 into Ringford and turn left in the village in the direction Laurieston/New Galloway. Almost exactly 2 miles (just past white cottage, with yellow down pipes and guttering, on the right hand side of the road) turn right, where there is a sign saying Backfell, over cattle grid and about 1/4 of a mile up the farm road you will find Backfell.

From the West (Stranraer)
A75 to Ringford
Take the A762 into Ringford which is the first left after The Old School Tearoom, then turn left in the Ringford village in the direction of Laurieston/New Galloway. Almost exactly 2 miles (just past white cottage, with yellow down pipes and guttering, on the right hand side of the road) turn right, where there is a sign saying Backfell, over cattle grid and about 1/4 of a mile up the farm road you will find Backfell.

NB. Some electronic/internet mapping systems will place Backfell on the West of the A762 north of Ringford (at Kirkconnel Farm), this is wrong, our road end is on the east side of the A762 , with a sign saying Backfell and you cross a cattle grid to get onto the farm road.
